Sean Clark, affectionately known as “Gammie on the Go”, has dedicated years to running for charitable causes and raising disability awareness despite being paralysed in his left leg. But the pain has become too much, and Sean is now bravely preparing to “let Gammie go”.
South Africa (30 May 2025) – The audacious runner with a heart that beats for others, Sean Clarke, popularly known as “Gammie on the Go”, has tugged at our hearts in a way that has left us feeling all the emotions.
This September, the compassionate athlete will be undergoing a below-knee amputation after years of “single-leggedly” running for more causes than most humans do in a lifetime.
In one of the first few stories of Sean on Good Things Guy, we shared that he named his leg “Gammie” after he severed the nerve at the back of his knee at the age of seven. The damage left him paralysed from the knee down.
But for years, Sean has defied the odds and the pain by devoting his life to running for those in need and championing disability awareness, while remarkably displaying the depths of the human spirit.
From running the Comrades Marathon to cycling from Johannesburg to Cape Town and even hiking the Otter Trail, Sean (and Gammie) have inspired us with every race and challenge endured.
But the pain and discomfort have become too much, and it’s time to let Gammie go. Now, Sean prepares to embark on a new challenge and is determined to face it head-on.
“Gammie’s tired, he’s sore, and I’m very proud of what he’s achieved throughout his life,” Sean says in a video.
While he admits that he knows this won’t be easy, as it will come with a new set of challenges, Sean does believe it is the right step forward for him.
“Yes, I’m kakking myself. But I’m also filled with hope and excitement for the opportunities and new challenges this next chapter will bring,” he writes in the post.
Sean invites his supporters and all those who have been touched by his journey to continue following along as he transitions forward.
“Thank you, Gammie, for enduring everything I’ve thrown at you. You’ve taught me how to weather life’s highs and lows with gratitude and grit.”
