The Restory Foundation recently gave the high school girls of Iksasalensha School an inspiring workshop on the many exciting STEM careers available to young women.

Durban, South Africa (19 November 2025) – Having women in STEM fields, where their participation was largely limited in the past, brings diverse perspectives, ideas, and approaches to problem-solving, which leads to more innovative and effective solutions.

Plus, it’s only fair that women get equal opportunities to pursue careers in these industries.

Helping to pave the way for the next generation of women to hold their own in science, technology, and mathematics was ReStory Foundation’s very own STEM champion, Phumlani Zungu, who organised an inspiring and informative workshop for the high school girls of Iksasalensha School at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

The Girls in Control STEM Workshop shone a light on the many exciting STEM careers available to young women, fields still largely dominated by men.

“This initiative encouraged learners to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and maths, and to see themselves as future leaders in these spaces,” ReStory Foundation said.

Such programmes help lay the foundation for tomorrow’s trailblazers, who will confidently express their ideas in important meetings, create innovative solutions in engineering, develop cutting-edge technologies, and advance medical science – because big ideas are inspired and nurtured in these environments.

And in even more exciting news, next year, ReStory Foundation will roll out a new programme to track learners who choose the science stream in high school and connect them with mentors who will walk the journey with them, providing guidance, motivation, and support, especially in major subjects.

“Together, we’re building a future where young women take their place confidently in STEM!”
