The work of our men and women in blue may often be defined by the intensity of the front lines, but they never pass up the opportunity to show up in compassionate ways for those going through a hard time.
Uitenhage, South Africa (19 December 2025) – In the demanding line of duty, where pressure mounts, lives are on the line, and the weight of stopping crime is a daily reality, there still exist kind souls who look out for our most vulnerable.
Whenever an opportunity arises to extend a helping hand or a moment of kindness, our police officers truly show up. This heart for the community was recently demonstrated by the Kariega SAPS, who, out of their own effort, collected toiletries to create care packs for patients at the Uitenhage Provincial Hospital.
The Christmas spirit and compassion were evident during the special handover of the care packs on Thursday, 18 December, aimed at providing comfort and support to victims during their time of need. The officers reached out to and engaged with survivors of gender-based violence through the meaningful initiative at the Victim Support Centre situated at the hospital.
“The care packs consisted of various toiletries, generously donated by Kariega SAPS members from their own homes, demonstrating true commitment and empathy towards the community they serve,” the South African Police Service (SAPS) said.

Local business owners were also approached to support the initiative and, without hesitation, stepped forward and contributed towards its success, highlighting the power of partnerships between SAPS and the community.
Kariega SAPS management extended a heartfelt word of thanks to everyone involved in making this initiative a success and standing together against abuse.
“Such collective efforts go a long way in restoring dignity, hope, and reassurance to victims, while reinforcing SAPS’ ongoing commitment to combating gender-based violence and supporting those affected.”
