Despite facing a year of staggering personal loss and challenges, Letti has dedicated every spare moment to being a volunteer inspector, foster mother, and guide for Orange Farm’s most vulnerable township animals.
Orange Farm, South Africa (19 December 2025) – In the township of Orange Farm, there is a woman whose heart of gold truly beats for animals in need.
Throughout the year, Letti has volunteered for PETS JHB – Pet Empowerment in Townships and supported the animal welfare charity in every aspect despite her own personal hardships this year, such as losing three of her own animals and caring for her diabetic mother, who is now in kidney failure.

“She is unemployed and does this out of her love for animals,” PETS JHB shares.
Letti has personally taken photos, gathered addresses and pin locations of multiple properties, which have then been reported to the SPCA. She has aided SPCA inspectors numerous times by providing information and guiding them around the township.
“She also assists with all our kennel distributions and food handouts. She’s taken many sick dogs to the vet with her partner, Simon, and fosters pups and kittens until we are able to collect them.”

With PETS JHB, Letti attends to each situation and guides the Johannesburg team around the township every time they visit – no matter what else she has going on personally.
“Her knowledge of the township, how people operate and how we should approach situations is invaluable. There are literally so many animals that would not be alive today if it weren’t for her directly rescuing them, reporting owners or rushing sick animals to the vet,” PETS JHB says.
Just last week, she fostered a semi-paralysed kitten for four days until it could be collected.
“She is our eyes, ears, and feet on the ground when we are not there and we could not do what we do without her help.”

Giving Back to the Woman Who Gives Everything
Now, PETS JHB is appealing for support to surprise this animal hero, who never expects or asks for anything, with a gift of gratitude.
“If you are in a position to, please consider making a donation of gratitude into the PETS account below so we can gift it to her. She doesn’t know we are putting out this plea, but she is struggling and would like to try to ease the burden on her this festive season.”
