As SA20 lights up the festive season, Mandoza’s Nkalakatha continues to be the soundtrack that cuts across cultures and brings South African sport to life.

South Africa (05 January 2026) –  If you have ever watched a live sporting event in South Africa, you will know this: every sport has that song.

In rugby, it’s almost impossible to escape Sweet Caroline. Football crowds have their own anthems. And when it comes to cricket in South Africa, there’s one track that can instantly change the atmosphere in the stadium. That’s Mandoza’s Nkalakatha.

The vibe was perfectly summed up by comedian and content creator Schalk Bezuidenhout, who recently shared a video explaining his ultimate go-to song. For him, Nkalakatha by the late kwaito legend Mandoza is non-negotiable.

“I don’t care who you are.”

You might not know the lyrics, you might not even be able to spell the name of the song, but one guarantee is that you will dance.

South Africa’s premier T20 league has built a reputation for being more than just cricket. Yes, the competition features some of the country’s top local talent alongside world-class international players, but beyond the boundaries, SA20 is a full-on experience.

Think DJs in the stands, fans dressed in costumes, dancing in the aisles, and music that turns a cricket match into a party.

It returned for its fourth season on Boxing Day, 26 December, opening at Newlands in Cape Town and set to conclude at the same venue on 25 January. League Commissioner Graeme Smith has spoken about how the competition has grown over the past three seasons, both in terms of player quality and local talent development.

Not just that, now, thanks to Schalk, we understand that it is also about songs that make an entire stadium move.
