The young athlete has earned provincial colours and a place at the SACSSA National Championships, with her family now seeking support to help her compete in Pietermaritzburg.

Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (28 April 2026) – At just seven years old, Juliette Rheeders is already getting used to the rhythm of early mornings, school days, and time on the track.

The Grade 1 learner has earned provincial colours and recently qualified to compete at the SACSSA National Championships in Pietermaritzburg later this year, where she will line up in both the 60m and 80m events.

Juliette’s progress has come steadily. From learning the basics to building confidence with each race, her journey into athletics has been shaped by consistency and support.

Those close to her describe a young athlete who shows focus well beyond her years, but still carries the excitement and joy that comes with simply running.

Qualifying for a national event at this stage opens up an important next step. This is exposure to a higher level of competition and the chance to learn in a new environment alongside other young athletes from across the country.

Getting there comes with practical challenges. Travel, accommodation, registration and equipment costs all add up, and her family is now looking for support to help make sure she can take her place at the starting line.
