Rodger may navigate the world in the dark, but this blind pup has a remarkable way of lighting up every room he walks into!
Johannesburg, South Africa (22 January 2026) – If you ever doubted the capabilities of a blind puppy, think again! Rodger is a very special pup, waiting for that very special family to make him theirs.
Described as “the most amazing pup” by his foster mom, Rodger is a special needs boy who is unfortunately blind.
“When his family realised he was blind, he was almost thrown out on the street at five weeks old. Thankfully, a very kind lady saved him and asked us to help find him the special home he deserves,” shares The Dogs Trust.
The adorable 11kg Boerboel pup is around 13 weeks old and has been in foster care, where he has adjusted well to a home environment.
“He is a very special boy, even though he is blind, he follows me everywhere all the time, he loves people and being around people (he cries when he realises he is alone), he is super social and loves to play with other dogs, loves his hooves and snacks and always finds a stick somewhere, he is always happy go lucky and very playful. He even discovered his little bark,” shares his foster mom, Janelle Horn.
The Dogs Trust explained that Rodger has been seen by the top eye surgeons at Valley Farm Vet, and it is confirmed that there is nothing that can be done for his condition. He will be blind for the rest of his life, but that does not get this boy down. In fact, the complete opposite – he lives life to the absolute fullest!
What’s more exciting, and affirming of this doggo’s sharp skills, is that Rodger has officially started school!
“We are trying our very best to give Rodger all the tools he will need to succeed in life, and he is flourishing at puppy school,” The Trust adds.
