Your blood donation has likely saved a life. Sharing about it could possibly save 10 more! The Western Cape Blood Service believes that when one donor shares their story, it can create a ripple effect that inspires many more to give.

Cape Town, South Africa (03 March 2026) – This March, the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is encouraging the public to share their spark. Not just by donating blood, but by sharing the personal stories that inspire others to join the lifesaving mission.

As part of its first-trimester campaign theme, Share, WCBS is focusing on the power of storytelling, peer influence, and community motivation. Word of mouth remains one of the most effective and trusted forms of marketing, reinforcing the impact of personal stories in motivating others to act.

With thousands of patients relying on blood transfusions every day, the need for blood remains constant. WCBS believes that when one donor shares their story, it can create a ripple effect that inspires many more to give.

“For some, donating blood is personal. For others, it’s a simple way of giving back.  When donors share their reason for donating, it becomes powerful,” says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS.

“This month, we’re asking donors to share their ‘why’ — whether it’s in honour of a loved one, a New Year’s resolution, or simply because they care. Their stories inspire others, and together, we spark a movement of generosity.”

Throughout March, WCBS will spotlight real donor stories across its digital platforms to encourage participation.

 How to Share Your Story

Whether you’re a regular blood donor or considering it for the first time, this is your moment. Your story, your spark, your blood – it all matters.

  • Donate blood at your closest blood donation clinic. Find it at www.wcbs.org.za/blood-donation/
  • Share your story via WhatsApp to 060 549 7244
  • Share it on socials, tag us at The Western Cape Blood Service #shareyoursparkWCBS

If you are between 16 and 75 years old, weigh 50kg or more, and are in good general health, and lead a safe sexual lifestyle, you may be eligible to donate blood.

The process takes just 30 minutes, and you may donate every 56 days. Donors are encouraged to eat a good meal within 3-4 hours before donating and increase their fluid intake before and after donation.

Do something remarkable. Share your spark and inspire others to donate blood.
