The mission is complete, and the people of Midrand made it possible! Thanks to heartfelt community support and skills training by the Midrand SPCA team, Trainee Inspector Mthunzi is now off to take on the world of animal welfare in Rustenberg.

Midrand, South Africa (04 March 2026) – A little over a week ago, we shared the heartwarming story of how the Midrand community showed up for an animal hero in training. Trainee Inspector Mthunzi had no place to stay in the area when he was invited to train at the Midrand SPCA.

Recognising the potential and value this young man had to contribute to animal welfare, he was assisted with accommodation and meals.

During his time at the SPCA, Mthunzi was guided and mentored by the exceptionally busy Inspectorate team.

“There is truly no better classroom than the field, and our Inspectors are always passionate about sharing their knowledge and experience. From follow-up inspections to addressing welfare concerns, Inspector Mthunzi had the opportunity to see first-hand what it really means to serve and protect animals,” Midrand SPCA said.

Over several days, the team covered various areas within the community, ensuring that no concern went unchecked and no opportunity to educate was missed – allowing trainee Inspector Mthunzi to grow and learn alongside a passionate and experienced team.

And after two full weeks of training, learning, inspections, teamwork and a whole lot of action, Mthunzi has officially completed his time with the team and will be putting all he’s learned to practice back at the Rustenburg SPCA.

“It has truly been an absolute pleasure having him with us. He jumped right in, got stuck into the work, and proved that he is ready to take on the world of animal welfare,” the team said.

Though their workload was heavy, the SPCA is incredibly proud of him and wishes Mthunzi nothing but success as he concludes his assignment.

“We have no doubt that he is going to go out there, make a BIG difference, and make both our SPCA and his home Society, Rustenburg SPCA, extremely proud. The bags are packed, the door is open… and we’re lovingly showing him the way out,” the team hilariously teased.

We applaud these animal heroes for taking another under their wing and investing in strengthening animal welfare beyond their own Society. To Mthunzi, we wish all the best as you continue fighting the good fight for animals!
