When trainee Inspector Mthunzi lacked a place to stay during the course of his training, the Midrand community opened their hearts and doors to ensure his career dreams didn’t go out of reach.
Midrand, South Africa (23 February 2026) – Few things are as daunting as securing a career-defining opportunity, only to be met by a significant obstacle.
When trainee Inspector Mthunzi was invited to train at the Midrand SPCA, he found himself in a difficult predicament: he had no place to stay near the facility.
Recognising his potential and determination, the SPCA sent out an appeal to the community to ensure the visiting trainee was housed during his time in the city.
And man, did the compassionate people of Midrand respond.
“We are so pleased to share how beautifully our community responded in support of Trainee Inspector Mthunzi, who is currently spending two weeks with Midrand SPCA as part of his ongoing training, with one more week still ahead before he returns to his own SPCA,” Midrand SPCA shared.
Mthunzi is currently staying at the Cycad Place Midrand Guesthouse and BNB, which generously opened its doors to him at a very reduced rate.
“Your kindness has ensured that Mthunzi has a safe, comfortable space to rest after long days of practical training and field work.”
Another kind soul, Jill Ronquest, sponsored Mthunzi’s dinners and snacks, with love from her two beautiful dogs, Lilly and Indy, ensuring he is well fed during his two-week visit.
“What a meaningful way to support animal welfare in honour of your own beloved companions.”
A heartfelt thank you also went to Skhathi Haripersad, who also contributed financially towards his stay.
“Your support is helping to ease the financial burden and allowing him to focus fully on learning, growing, and strengthening his skills in the field.”
What began as a hurdle for a determined trainee has beautifully become a testament to Midrand’s spirit.

The animal welfare society further recognised and thanked its own Inspectors, Jerry Seemise and Theo Mokgatle, as well as General Manager Inspector Pam Pretorius, who are currently dedicating significant time and effort to facilitate hands-on training, mentorship and guidance.
“Investing in the development of future Inspectors strengthens not only our society, but the SPCA movement as a whole. Inspectors are the backbone of animal welfare – responding to cruelty cases, rescuing animals in distress, and enforcing the Animals Protection Act.”
The entire Midrand SPCA team thanks its supporters and community for standing with them. Mthunzi’s training journey is being strengthened through this continued collaboration and community support, and the animals he will go on to protect will ultimately benefit from your kindness and commitment.
