Eleven athletes from Cape Town Surf Riders ready to ride the waves and represent their district at the 2026 South African Para Surfing Championships.
Cape Town, South Africa (08 April 2026) – Eleven talented para surfers from Cape Town are set to hit the waves in Durban on 18–19 April 2026, representing their district at the South African Para Surfing Championships. Backed by the Roxy Davis Foundation, each athlete has earned their district colours.
The selected surfers include Noluthando Makalima, Raemondo Lessing, Keisha Khanyisa Johnson, Michael Lapperts, Thando Ngcikwe, Emihle Jaiden Sombexe, Nasr Esau, Nokuthula Yonke, Diego Saal, Sisande Xolani Mhlungu and Chase Winshaw. The team will travel to Durban on 17 April and return after two action-packed days of competition on 19 April.
These athletes are looking for a chance to show the growth of para surfing in South Africa and the strength of the Cape Town community. Months of training, focus, and countless hours in the water culminate in these two days where skill, determination, and teamwork meet the ocean.

The event also plays an important role in the national selection pathway, with strong performances influencing future eligibility for the South African National Team.
The team is supported by a dedicated coaching and management crew from the Roxy Davis Foundation. The volunteers help ensure the athletes’ safety, preparation, and peak performance.
To make sure every athlete reaches Durban, the team is raising funds for travel. With flights costing R4,500 per person, the goal is to raise R72,000 to cover 10 athletes and six coaches/chaperones. Contributions, big or small, help ensure these committed athletes can compete without limits. Fund a seat and change a story.
Donations can be made via the team’s crowdfunding campaign here. Or by contacting roxy@roxydavisfoundation.org
