The national team coach has kept faith with his experienced core, but will wait until the last possible moment before deciding on the availability of two injured Sundowns stars.

South Africa (06 November 2026) – Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane is keeping his options open as he prepares for two important Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya, with the fitness of captain Ronwen Williams and midfielder Teboho Mokoena still a concern.

Both Mamelodi Sundowns players have been included in South Africa’s final squad, despite working their way back from recent injuries. Their availability will, however, depend on how they progress in the coming days, with Sundowns set to face USM Alger in Sunday’s CAF Super Cup final.

Mosimane says he will monitor their involvement in that match before making a final call, with the Bafana medical and technical teams already in contact with Sundowns.

The coach is keen to give the experienced pair every opportunity to recover, given their importance to the national team over the past few years.

“Those are key players who led us in the first AFCON (in 2024), the second AFCON (in 2025) and at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They were part of the AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea (in September 2026), right?

“So, they are very, very important players and we will wait till the last possible moment should the doctors say to me ‘coach, we are ruling them out.’ Then we can bring in other players just as we did when we brought in Tshepang Moremi (to replace injured midfielder Lebohang Maboe) in the last camp.”

Bafana will face the Harambee Stars twice in the space of four days, first welcoming Kenya to the Orlando Amstel Arena in Johannesburg on Friday, 13 November. Kick-off is at 18:00, before the team heads to Nairobi for the return fixture on Tuesday, 17 November.

The squad will gather in Johannesburg on Sunday, 8 November, as preparations get underway for the double-header.
