A strong field of top riders and local clubs is set to headline the Tour Durban, with new race formats and added competition bringing fresh excitement to this year’s event.
Durban, South Africa (14 April 2026) – Cycling fans can look forward to a full day of action as Tour Durban returns this weekend, bringing together top riders, rising stars and recreational cyclists for one of the city’s most anticipated road races.
This year’s edition comes with a refreshed format that promises a more dynamic and spectator-friendly experience. The day will kick off early with the KZN Cycling Schools Road Series final, before the recreational ride gets underway, giving the broader cycling community a chance to be part of the action. Later in the morning, attention will shift to the elite races, where the pace is expected to lift significantly.
The main event will see some of the country’s top riders battle it out, with a strong field already confirmed. Among those to watch is Josh Rheeders, who will be eager to go one better after finishing runner-up last year. With defending champion Travis Stedman yet to confirm his entry, the door is wide open for a new winner.
Riders like Scott Blount, South African champion Daniyal Matthews and local talent David Shelly are all set to challenge for top honours, while Matthews’ Tshenolo Pro Cycling teammate Rodney Masemola could also play a key role in the race outcome.
Team competition will add another layer of excitement, with Team Siata entering as favourites based on their strong performances in recent years.
The route itself is designed to keep both riders and spectators engaged. Early races will follow a scenic loop along the M4 between Moses Mabhida Stadium and Umdloti, while the elite riders will take on a more demanding course that includes longer laps before finishing with shorter, faster circuits closer to the city.
From seasoned professionals chasing podium finishes to everyday riders enjoying the experience, Tour Durban is once again shaping up to be a standout event on the local cycling calendar.
