Leave your fear of bugs at the door for this one.
Johannesburg, South Africa (17 April 2026) – The Yebo Gogga Exhibition returns to Wits University in May for four days of bug-loving goodness.
The totally free event (which turns 30 this year!) aims to educate the public, especially school-age kids, about arthropods and how they fit into the natural world.
The event and its many fascinating displays of live plants and animals give visitors an engaging, hands-on opportunity to learn about all kinds of critters from insects to arachnids, crustaceans, and myriapods, along with multiple interesting talks hosted by zoologists and experts.

Teachers often make it a fun field trip for pupils, families bring little ones, and even curious adults flock to the annual event, which this year will be held at Oppenheimer Life Sciences Building on East Campus at Wits University.
The theme for 2026 focuses on food and water, looking at how food sustains life, and how getting food and avoiding becoming it are processes that keep the natural world alive.
“Broadly, there are two groups of living things. Those, such as plants, able to utilise inorganic chemicals for growth and reproduction and those like animals and fungi that require organic material for their life functions.” shares Yebo Gogga.
The exhibition will take place from the 13th to the 17th of May, on weekdays and weekends. All you need to do is rock up! Schools, however, must make bookings in advance. Find out more here.
