A parcel that fell off a truck still found its way home thanks to two honest security officers!

Johannesburg, South Africa (04 May 2026) – It started with a phone call that set off every alarm bell for our reader, Helen. A security officer rang her line, saying he’d picked up a parcel from the road with a name, an address, and a number.

A computer component worth close to R20,000 had fallen off a delivery truck. Our reader was expecting it. And when a stranger rang to say he had it, her first instinct was the same as most of ours would be. Surely a scam?

“Well, I freaked out. I immediately thought scam!”

She did what you should do and went to the source. Helen called the tech company, which called the delivery company. And the story actually checked out. The parcel had genuinely tumbled off the truck and been recovered from the road by honest strangers looking to do the right thing!

Not long after, two officers from 24/7 Security Services arrived at her estate’s guardhouse and handed it over.

“Next thing I know the security officer Mr Tinyiko Nkanyani and his co-worker Mr Tiyani Mushwana were at my estate’s guardhouse delivering my parcel. Well, the day could have gone sincerely sideways…. but it didn’t! Two honest guys did a good thing!!!”

Helen now has endless gratitude for Mr Tinyiko Nkanyani and Mr Tiyani Mushwana of 24/7 Security Services, and their boss, David de Lima, who, it turns out, used to be a customer at her old restaurant!

“Shout out to the company owner David de Lima, who, plot twist, used to be my customer back when my restaurant was still up and running!”

South Africa’s security officers tend to do extraordinary things every day. When they’re not saving kittens, pulling people from danger, or spreading good vibes, they’re saving stray packages.

The story is uncomplicated and sweet, but it also reminds us of something really important. Most people, when given the opportunity, are good and honest. In a country where cynicism comes so easily, that reminder matters!

“Life really does have a sense of humour… the world turns in the most unexpected (and lovely) ways!” says Helen.
