No height could stop Security Officer Bassett’s heart from leading with kindness.

Gqeberha, South Africa (23 April 2026)Atlas Security received a call. There was a cat stuck metres up a tree in Lovemore Heights. Armed Response Office Armien Bassett, being nearest to the scene, quickly made his way there without any hesitation.

Sometimes, bravery looks like chasing down criminals. Sometimes it looks like climbing a tree and saving a cat.

When asked about the experience, Armien was candid in saying that he was actually “equally as afraid of being up in the tree as the cat.”

Still, bravery took the wheel and he climbed up. After scooping up the scared cat in his own frightened arms, Bassett made his way back to solid ground. The two then shared a cuddle after escaping the dizzying heights.

Officer Bassett’s sense of duty pushed him forward. He conquered a fear to save the littlest life. He didn’t even have to think twice about it. That’s the short but very sweet message here. Compassion rules!

“It’s the lives of those I protect that give me the courage to surpass my own limits on duty. I’m just happy that I could have been of assistance. All in a day’s work.” he tells us.

That’s the heart behind what armed response officers do daily by protecting and serving the community in all situations, big or small.

Officer Bassett was publicly praised at his place of work for his bravery in safely rescuing the kitty and bringing it home.

“Thank you to your Atlas Armed Response Officer Bravo 108 for rescuing a kitty stuck high up in a tree and safely returning it home.”
