The three Jack Russells are out of the shelter and in a loving home. The family who made it happen has all hopes of making it a ‘forever!’
Johannesburg, South Africa (19 May 2026) – When Harvey, Dexter and Bella lost their home, they lost their favourite pool, too. The one they’d joyfully splash in and chase balls around. It became the symbol of everything they were hoping to find again.
When their human dad’s declining health forced him to downscale and move into a retirement space earlier this year, the trio went from living their dream to shelter life for the first time ever.
The before-and-after shared by Paws R Us SA said everything about their spirits.

Then, just as the shelter community rallied to hold them close, eight-year-old Harvey, the soul of the trio, faced an unexpected battle. They had found collapsed discs in his neck, which left him in pain and barely able to walk. Surgery was needed and the cost was insurmountable for Paws to carry alone.
Compassion took the lead. Forty-three donors came together in under a month to fund Harvey’s Ventral Slot Surgery at Bryanston Veterinary Hospital. The procedure was a success. He was discharged with a handmade Bravery Award from the hospital staff, and placed in a specialised medical foster home with Liz from Dogster. While Dexter and Bella waited, and hoped, and waited some more…

And now, the most hopeful news!
The Three Musketeers are back together, and it’s looking like forever.
Liz and her partner Pierre, who have been fostering Harvey through his recovery, found that they simply could not imagine saying goodbye to him. So they asked if they could bring Dexter and Bella home too, to see how all three settle in together, with every hope of one day adopting all of them.
“In an unexpected, but beautiful change in direction, Liz and Pierre, who are fostering HARVEY, decided that they simply could not let him go, and asked if they could foster DEX & BELLA too, with a view towards seeing how integration goes, and then ADOPTING ALL OF THEM!” shares Paws R Us SA
If that isn’t the best news on its own…
“The dogs will have a doting family, other Jackie friends, a beautiful home and a POOL!”
A pool!!! They might just get their pool back.
Nothing is set in stone just yet. Integration takes time, and this chapter is still being written. But for now, these three little dogs are reunited, together under the same roof, with a family who already loves them deeply and is giving this every chance it deserves.
