From Marvel heroes and Star Wars adventures to Hulu originals and the return of Only Murders in the Building, Disney+’s latest showcase revealed a line-up that should keep subscribers happily glued to their screens.
Johannesburg, South Africa (04 June 2026) – Last night, my job took me to do one of my favourite things in the world: watch trailers, get excited about upcoming releases and talk about television with people who are every bit as obsessed as I am. Disney+ invited media to celebrate its 4th birthday in South Africa while unveiling what’s coming in 2026, and while there are plenty of secrets I can’t share just yet, there is one thing I can say with certainty: subscribers are in for a treat.
The event was hosted at Tigers Milk, which initially left me slightly confused. I love a Tigers Milk as much as the next person but previous showcases have often been held in venues that feel a little more cinematic. A little more theatre-like. A few minutes into the presentation, however, everything clicked into place. One of the big announcements of the evening was the return of Disney+ Quiz Nights at Tigers Milk venues across South Africa. To give us a taste of what fans can expect, we got to take part in a quiz ourselves. And I scored 22 out of 24. Apparently, years of watching Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and just about everything else on the platform have finally paid off.
As exciting as the announcements were, there was one small catch. We all had to sign NDAs before the event, which means there are trailers, sneak peeks and reveals that I cannot tell you about. Yet. Trust me, if I could, I would. There were some trailers shown during the showcase that had the room collectively gasping, laughing, or immediately whispering to one another, and I suspect many of those shows and movies will become some of the biggest entertainment conversations of the year (once they’re officially unveiled). I’m not being hyperbolic here. There are some real goodies coming to the platform.
What I can tell you is that Disney+ is building a remarkably strong slate for 2026.
Among the highlights are Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers, which I have already seen and LOVE! It’s an imaginative animated adventure that follows a young animal lover who uses groundbreaking technology to experience life as a beaver. It made me cry. And miss my gran. It is beautiful. Put it on your watch list.
The award-winning The Bear also returns later this month for its 5th and final season, while Hulu Originals Not Suitable for Work and Alice & Steve are bringing fresh comedy and drama to the platform.
Fans of epic storytelling have plenty to look forward to as well. Avatar: Fire and Ash is heading to Disney+ following its theatrical run, while Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 returns for a second season. And it looks EPIC. The X-Men are in 3 different timelines, and the new series is going to introduce us to new mutants. Saturday cartoon mornings sorted!
The upcoming line-up for 2026 also includes VisionQuest, the 3rd installment of the “Wanda” series, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man and Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi, which expands one of the most beloved corners of the Star Wars universe.
There is also more on the way from fan favourites like Only Murders in the Building, which heads overseas for its 6th season, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which returns to adapt The Titan’s Curse. National Geographic’s growing slate continues with fascinating new documentaries, while sports fans can look forward to major live events through ESPN, including the NBA Finals, the TOP 14 Rugby Final, the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and the return of the NFL season.
One of the developments I’m really excited about is Hulu becoming an even bigger part of the Disney+ offering. Let’s just say that some of the previews we watched suggest Hulu could be delivering some of the most talked-about shows of 2026. Ja, those were the ones that left us gasping. I wish I could tell you more about them, but for now, they will have to remain locked away until Disney gives us the green light… which, admittedly, gives you a very good reason to keep checking the Good Things Guy entertainment section over the coming months.
I’ll say this, though… if last night’s showcase is anything to go by, Disney+ is entering its 5th year in South Africa with cake, confidence and a packed line-up of stories waiting to be told (and seen). And while I can’t share all the secrets just yet, there is LOADS to look forward to.
