Excitement is building across the country as Bafana Bafana prepare for a landmark World Cup encounter, with millions of South Africans expected to tune in and cheer them on.

South Africa (28 June 2026) – South Africa is preparing for a historic FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against Canada, with kick-off set for 9pm (South Africa time). It’s a match that has us counting down the hours, knowing that another memorable chapter could be written by a team that has already captured the nation’s imagination.

Bafana Bafana earned their place in the knockout rounds after a spirited campaign that refused to be defined by an opening defeat. A dramatic late equaliser against Czechia kept their hopes alive before a determined victory over South Korea secured second place in Group A and booked South Africa’s first-ever place in a FIFA World Cup knockout match.

Canada, meanwhile, has enjoyed a breakthrough tournament of their own. After navigating a competitive group, they too are preparing for their first appearance in the knockout stages of a FIFA World Cup, making Sunday’s encounter a genuine battle between two nations creating history together.

Earlier today, I asked Good Things Guy readers where they planned to watch the match and the responses painted a wonderful picture of the country coming together. Many will be cheering from their couches with family and friends (especially in Cape Town, where the weather is playing a huge part in decision-making), plenty will be gathered around a braai, while others have booked at their favourite locals because, as more than one reader joked, “it’s a much better place to scream when the nerves kick in“. We even had a response from a new mom, who is eagerly awaiting the doctor’s sign-off to go home, where a Bafana onsie is waiting for her new baby.

The match will take place at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, with kick-off scheduled for 9pm South African time. Supporters can watch live on SuperSport via DStv channels 201, 202 and 235. SABC will also broadcast the match on SABC 3, with a simulcast on SABC 1, while multiple SABC radio stations will offer live commentary in the language of your choice.

Tonight, millions of voices will rise together from homes, gardens, restaurants and bars across the country. Whatever the final score, South Africa will be watching as one nation, proud of how far this team has already come and excited to see just how much further this incredible journey can go.

Also, tomorrow is a “holiday” regardless of the outcome, right? Jokes. Maybe not.

Proudly South African. And proud of South Africa! The country is behind you!!!! Gooooooo Bafana!
