We’re halfway through the school year, and Alta du Toit School has closed off a term filled with kindness, achievement and care, while inviting the community to help keep its learners comfortable, supported and thriving.

Kuils River, South Africa (29 June 2026) – At Alta du Toit School, youngsters are embraced for their unique abilities and offered specialised, professional education tailored to learners with intellectual disabilities.

The school prides itself on providing a supportive and enriching environment where each learner’s potential is developed, and the growth of every staff member is encouraged.

As the year reached its halfway mark, the school reflected on an eventful Term 2, during which every learner received a brand-new pair of school shoes, thanks to the generosity of Kids Etc NPC, Footgear, and Barefoot No More.

The gift of new shoes brought joy, confidence, and dignity to the learners, while treats of chips, juice, and sweets added to the excitement of the day. The atmosphere was filled with smiles, laughter, and gratitude, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Learners also shone at Culture Day 2026, a wonderful celebration of music, dance, and talent. On the sports field, Akhanya Tyeda received the WPSAPD Most Promising Junior Male Athlete Award at the WPSAPD Annual Awards Ceremony.

The Clothing Bank initiative was another wonderful success, with members of the greater community purchasing second-hand clothing, bedding, and shoes.

The Multidisciplinary Team recently hosted a parent workshop, “Supporting Your Child’s Development Through Play,” for learners on the school’s waiting list and their families. Parents and learners participated in practical activities focused on developing hand skills, communication, body awareness, movement, and independence through everyday play. It reflected the importance of play-based learning and reinforced the belief that every child can learn, small steps matter, and parents are valuable partners in their child’s development.

The school also opened two new regulation rooms: one for the Junior and Middle Phase, and one for the Senior and Occupational Phase. These supportive spaces allow learners to regulate their emotions, calm their bodies, and return to learning feeling ready and supported.

Alta du Toit School is home to a community that continues to create an environment where every learner is supported to succeed.

Now, that very community needs a little help in supporting the youngsters in its care and is appealing for donations of nappies.

“Our learners rely on 177 nappies every single day, and we need your help to keep them comfortable, clean, and cared for. A donation of nappies, big or small, can make a world of difference in the life of a child at Alta du Toit School.”

This simple yet essential daily need helps provide dignity, comfort, and care to these special learners. To help make a difference, email [email protected] or call 021 903 4178.
