Christopher Isaacs turned more than 50 hours of community service into a new isolation enclosure that will help protect and care for rescued cats at 4Paws.
Johannesburg, South Africa (02 July 2026) – What began as a community service project has become a lasting gift for a local animal shelter and the many cats that pass through its doors.
Christopher Isaacs, from the 1st Rivertrail Scout Group, has completed his prestigious Scouts Springbok Community Service Project after dedicating 56 hours to building a new isolation enclosure for 4Paws Animal Shelter.
The 3m x 3m enclosure will provide a safe space where sick cats can recover before being introduced to the shelter’s healthy feline residents, helping prevent the spread of illness and improving the care they receive.
The project was no easy task.
“This project was tough, from digging about one-metre-deep holes, to moving about two tonnes of concrete, to threading wire between fencing. My project allowed me to reach over 50 hours of service, all in the name of helping animals.”
Christopher says the experience taught him how one person’s efforts can have a meaningful impact.
“With this project, I have learned just how important a single project can be for the community. My project allows the cats in the shelter to be helped. It segregates the sick cats that come in from those who are already there and healthy. They can be treated and taken care of as needed until they can be put with the healthy cats.”
4Paws, a no-kill shelter that has cared for vulnerable cats and dogs since 2006, welcomed Christopher’s contribution, saying the new enclosure will make a lasting difference.
“Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and compassion. Your contribution will make a lasting difference. We are truly grateful!” the organisation said.
Christopher is also encouraging members of the public to support the shelter, whether by donating pet food, blankets, beds and treats, making a financial contribution, or, perhaps most importantly, opening their homes to one of the many cats and dogs waiting to be adopted.
