A secondhand goods shop in Hermanus paid it forward, and the ripple effects are going to support a community of vulnerable people!

Hermanus, South Africa (06 July 2026) – Snuffels has gifted their Izak Trike to Mama Sorya’s Soup Kitchen, giving the community initiative an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to transport donations to and fro.

Mama Sorya’s Soup Kitchen does incredible work in the Hermanus community. Sorya feeds many local children, provides a safe haven for the vulnerable, and even runs a swap shop in the Zwe/Mount Pleasant area.

A mother of 5, she cooks every day for up to 100 township children through her soup kitchen, which brings hope, love, and joy. Her good work is fully funded by donations, and the trike will help her bring warm meals and smiles to more children.

The trike itself is just as special as the cause it’s now supporting. It was designed and built by Asiphe Thobelo, known locally as Izak, a young entrepreneur who makes trikes from recycled materials. The Izak Trike is available for sale or order at Snuffels, the local secondhand shop who made the generous donation to Sorya.

If you live in the area and spot the Izak Trike, or Sorya out cycling, give them a hoot, a wave, or a cheer. It all helps raise awareness for the incredible work they do, and reminds them that the community is behind them every step of the way.

“Just imagine a world, where each South African reached out to help just one other person overcome severe poverty… we could transform our communities and change countless lives.” shares Snuffels.

Mama Sorya shared her gratitude for the new wheels.

“Thank you Snuffels Hermanus for this…giving me a opportunity to collect my goodies. God bless…” writes Mama Sorya’s Soup Kitchen. “This morning was amazing…poep, poep, [and I’m] on my way, Doris day…”

This donation keeps a soup kitchen running and a community fed. That’s what paying it forward looks like!
