Before she turned 11 years old, Bella Gonzales made herself a promise while driving around with her mother: this year, for her birthday, she wouldn’t take gifts for herself. This year, she wanted people to donate toys to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. And just in time for the holidays, too!
And sure enough, she held her promise. She just dropped off the toys for the children on Tuesday!
Bella hoped to get at least half a car-full of toys. But she got received more than she bargained for when two cars were quickly filled with toys for the children in need!
And it was all thanks to a Facebook post. At her request, her mother put out the word of her daughter’s plans, and sure enough, within two days, fifty people pledged donations. Strangers continued to drop off gifts at their house and at her mother’s job. The living room was quickly filled, and her mom’s office was so packed that Bella says she couldn’t even push back her chair!
Bella received everything from tablets to video games to board games. She received a whopping total of over 500 gifts!
So what does Bella hope to see come from her generosity?
“I hope they are really happy, and I hope to make them smile,” she said.
Her actions were inspired by her cousin, who has spent time in the hospital for cancer treatments.
We know those kids’ faces will light up come the holidays, all thanks to Bella! And Bella is truly dedicated to her cause, as she’s planning another fundraiser for the hospital next year.
