The surprise partnership brings early race access, training rewards and a shared mission to inspire more South Africans to embrace healthier, more active lifestyles.

Johannesburg, South Africa (10 July 2026) – For a brief moment, guests at Discovery’s latest announcement were left guessing.

The sound of the Cape Minstrels welcoming guests had many wondering whether the event had something to do with Cape Town tourism or a new travel initiative. Instead, the surprise reveal was one that is set to excite thousands of runners across South Africa. Discovery has officially been announced as the new Health, Wellness and Banking Partner of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD.

The partnership marks a new chapter for one of the country’s most iconic sporting events, while reinforcing Discovery’s long-standing commitment to encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles.

Known around the world as “the world’s most beautiful marathon”, the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon attracts runners from across South Africa and abroad every year, with demand for entries consistently exceeding the number of available race spots.

Speaking to Good Things Guy, Discovery Chief Marketing Officer Firoze Bhorat said the partnership is about far more than gaining access to one of the country’s most sought-after races.

“Our entire business is founded on a core purpose of making people healthier,” he said.

Bhorat explained that while elite athletes often steal the spotlight, the real opportunity lies in inspiring ordinary South Africans to become more active.

“It doesn’t have to be an ultra-marathon, a marathon or even a 5km. It can simply be that first kilometre that gets somebody moving. Those small steps can have huge health benefits.”

That philosophy sits at the heart of the new partnership, which aims to support runners from the moment they begin training right through to crossing the finish line.

For the first time in the event’s history, qualifying Discovery Bank clients will enjoy a dedicated early-access entry window before the public ballot opens, giving them the chance to secure one of the country’s most coveted race entries ahead of the rush.

Beyond race entry, runners will also have access to a range of training and wellness benefits through the Discovery ecosystem, including discounts on fitness gear, gym memberships, travel and accommodation, as well as rewards for completing the race.

The announcement also comes as organisers prepare to significantly expand the event.

The partnership is also about showcasing South Africa to the world.

“We’re inviting the global community to Cape Town to witness and participate in what is the world’s most beautiful race. It’s a privilege for us to be part of something like this.”

The timing couldn’t be better. Running continues to enjoy unprecedented growth across South Africa, with more people taking up the sport through community running clubs, social events and organised races than ever before.

Whether chasing a personal best, ticking an item off a bucket list or simply embracing a healthier lifestyle, more South Africans are discovering the joy of putting one foot in front of the other.

The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon has long been more than just a race. It’s a celebration of community, drawing runners from nearly 100 countries to Cape Town’s spectacular coastline every year.

Now, with Discovery joining the journey, organisers hope even more people will be inspired to lace up their running shoes, embrace an active lifestyle and experience the magic of one of South Africa’s most celebrated sporting events.
