A school project turned into a heartfelt day of giving for both rescued animals and the families supported by the shelter.
Soshanguve, South Africa (17 July 2026) – Kindness was top of the class when one family’s school project turned into a heartfelt visit to the Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre.
Kelly Douglas, her husband and their son recently visited the Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre, where they rolled up their sleeves and spent time caring for the shelter’s four-legged residents. From showering the animals with affection to lending a helping hand around the shelter, the family showed that giving back can take many forms.
But they didn’t stop there.
The family also arrived with a generous collection of donations, including four 8kg bags of dog food, blankets, dog biscuits, snacks for children at the Educentre and 39 jars of nutritious soup meals for families supported by the organisation.
The shelter says it’s gestures like these that make an incredible difference.
While the food and supplies will help meet immediate needs, the time the family spent interacting with the animals was just as meaningful, giving many of the dogs the love, attention and social interaction they crave while waiting for their forever homes.
The Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre thanked the Douglas family for choosing to support both its animals and the wider community, describing the family’s generosity as deeply appreciated.
As a registered non-profit organisation, the shelter continues to rely on public support to care for abandoned and rescued animals while also extending a helping hand to vulnerable families through its community initiatives.
