An exciting new chapter has begun for 64 little ones in Maruping Village as they step into the bright, safe, and nurturing classrooms of the newly opened Reaiteka Pre-School!
Maruping Village, South Africa (21 July 2026) – Today, the sun rose on a special day for 64 little ones in Maruping Village, Northern Cape, as they finally walked into the kind of future every child deserves: the official opening of the brand-new Reaiteka Pre-School!
Regular readers might remember when Good Things Guy first shared news of this wonderful project back in May. Together with its partners, the Santa Shoebox Project (SSP) Legacy set out to build a permanent, brick-and-mortar space, thoughtfully designed to offer a safer, warmer, and more inspiring environment during these critical early childhood years.
Today, little learners aged three to five stepped into bright, cosy, and welcoming classrooms built just for them.
With proper insulation to keep young minds focused and comfortable, plus age-appropriate spaces with vibrant, colourful doors, the new facility gives teachers the perfect setting to nurture the language, math, and social skills these children need to thrive.
Santa Shoebox Project CEO Deb Zelezniak, who initiated the build, shared that these new classrooms now contain alphabets, colourful drawings, plenty of books, and the promise of weekly milestones reached.
“Our hope is that every child who walks through these doors receives a powerful message – that their education matters, and that they are worth building for,” Deb continues.
Reaiteka Pre-Primary Principal Vivian Kilelo said the upgraded ECD centre will make a huge difference as the children can now learn in a safe, proper classroom instead of a shack.
“This means better learning conditions, a more structured learning environment, and more space for each child.”

This milestone marks the completion of the SSP Legacy’s eighth school build, transformed from a mere trench in the red earth in May to a vibrant centre of learning today!
The school build is a result of a powerful five-way partnership between SSP Legacy, Breadline Africa, the Centre for Early Childhood Development (CECD), Kathu Solar Park, and the community of Maruping. A collaboration that underscores the belief that geography should never determine the quality of a child’s education.
And as the sun sets later today, what has been achieved by these vital role players is so much more than a new building.
For the children who were previously taught in a rusted corrugated iron shack that baked under the Kalahari sun in summer and offered little protection against the bitter winter cold, the new build represents a radical shift in their educational environment.
By providing these safe spaces and investing in teacher training, the project ensures that the first five years of a child’s life (when 90% of brain development occurs) are filled with the “beautiful chaos of childhood discovery” rather than the struggle for basic comfort.
