After arriving at the rehabilitation centre terrified, Flint’s rehabilitation continues to move in the right direction.
Johannesburg, South Africa (22 July 2026) – Flint’s story is taking a heartwarming turn after weeks of patience, care and gentle reassurance at the South African Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
The young serval kitten, who arrived at the centre frightened of almost everything around him, is slowly beginning to settle into his new surroundings and, for the first time, show signs of confidence.
When Flint was first rescued by a kind-hearted petrol attendant and brought to the centre, his fear was overwhelming. Caregivers described him as one of the most terrified serval kittens they had ever looked after, with every feed and interaction requiring calm voices, slow movements and endless patience.
His caregivers say the dramatic cries that once filled the clinic whenever he lost sight of his favourite human, Judy, are becoming less frequent as he settles into life at the centre.
The next milestone in Flint’s rehabilitation will be meeting the other young servals in their care. It’s an important step in helping him develop the natural instincts he’ll need, from stalking and pouncing to interacting with his own kind, while gradually reducing his dependence on people.
Those small, consistent acts of kindness are starting to pay off. Flint’s journey continues one careful step at a time. Every small victory is a reminder of just how far he’s come, and his caregivers can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.
