By trading personal birthday gifts for bowls of pet food, one selfless Midrand resident has turned her special day into an annual lifeline for local shelter animals.

Midrand, South Africa (03 August 2026) – While many of us look forward to a little personal pampering on our birthdays, one Midrand woman has turned her annual celebration into something far bigger than herself.

Each year, Jayne Healy celebrates her birthday in a very special way: Instead of asking for gifts, she uses her special day to rally friends and family to donate pet food to furry friends in need!

Though she doesn’t do it for the spotlight, her annual tradition of kindness has once again delivered a generous haul of much-needed food to the animals at the Midrand SPCA.

“Every bag donated will help ensure that hungry animals receive the nourishment they need while they wait for their second chance,” the SPCA team shared.

“Jayne, your continued support over the years means more than words can express. Thank you for choosing to make your birthday about giving back and for inspiring those around you to do the same.”

The animal welfare society relies entirely on the generosity of the community in the form of food donations and monetary contributions. Without the support of caring individuals like Jayne (and so many others), it wouldn’t be able to assist the community and the many vulnerable animals that enter its doors effectively.

The team behind this invaluable work further thanked every generous heart that supported Jayne’s birthday pet food collection, which directly helps them continue to serve and protect animals in need.

“Happy Birthday, Jayne! We hope you had a wonderful celebration, and we are incredibly grateful that you chose to share it with the Midrand SPCA once again.”

Jayne, celebrating another year by giving back, is not just a heartfelt gesture we admire – it is one that makes a world of difference for the shelter animals relying on that generosity!
