A little baboon roaming the Overberg left a most adorable surprise for the researchers at the Cape Leopard Trust. 🤭👋
Overberg, South Africa (21 August 2026) – The Cape Leopard Trust (CLT) kicked off its survey of the greater Overberg region earlier this year, with over 172 trail cameras set up at 86 different locations to monitor leopards in the region.
These surveys help researchers track the species’ population numbers over time and guide conservation to better protect them and their habitats.
The trail cams don’t stop at snapping leopards, though. Each survey results in tens of thousands of images of the region’s amazing wildlife.
The research team is currently sifting through many of those images and in so doing, have stumbled across a gem!
A little baboon left a cheeky greeting for surveyors! One worthy of its own postcard.

“Why, hello to you too little one!” the CLT wrote, sharing the image online. “Our research team is currently sifting through tens of thousands of camera trap images from our ongoing Cape Leopard Trust Overberg survey (with the help of WildID) – and coming across little gems like these puts a real smile on the dial.”
We’re excited to see more of the happy snaps captured during the current survey. The CLT has released some already – click here to see them!
