Vumani has earned the opportunity to train and play in Italy, with a fundraising campaign now underway to help cover the R75,000 cost.
Johannesburg, South Africa (25 August 2026) – A spot on an international rugby tour is now within reach for young Vumani, after his hard work on the rugby field earned him a place on the Warriors Italy Rugby Tour in December 2026.
Selected from a group of talented young players, Vumani impressed selectors with his potential. The tour will give him the chance to play matches in Italy, train in a different rugby environment and attend a coaching clinic with an Italian coach.
The trip is expected to cost around R70,000, excluding visa fees and other expenses. His family is hoping to raise approximately R75,000 to cover the full cost and make sure money doesn’t prevent him from taking up the opportunity.
Vumani’s mother, Precious, simply doesn’t have the financial means to fund the trip herself. But those supporting his journey are making it clear that this isn’t about asking people to give him something he hasn’t earned.
He earned the selection. Now they want to help him get there.
The fundraising campaign is already underway, with the first R10,000 deposit due by 30 August, followed by further payments in September and the final balance by 30 October.
The hope is that rugby fans, businesses and members of the wider community will come together to help Vumani get on that plane.
In some cases the biggest thing standing between a young athlete and their next opportunity isn’t talent, but rather having the means to get there. And for Vumani, the destination is Italy.
