From the streets of Johannesburg to a massive Springbok showdown in Cape Town and a medal hunt in Poland, there’s plenty to get excited about.

Global (28 August 2026) – From a women’s running celebration in Johannesburg, to the latest chapter of rugby’s greatest rivalry and a South African medal hunt in Poland, there’s plenty happening in sport this weekend.

Women Take Over the Streets of Joburg

The 2026 Women’s Half Marathon gets underway early on Saturday, with runners taking to the streets from the Wits Education Campus in Parktown.

The event offers 21km, 10km and 5km races, giving runners of different levels a chance to get involved.

But it’s about more than the distance. The race celebrates women in sport, encouraging participants to challenge themselves, chase their goals and enjoy the energy of thousands of people coming together.

Boks Ready for Another All Blacks Battle

The Springboks and All Blacks meet again at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, with the Boks looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 33–16 defeat at Ellis Park.

Scrumhalf Cobus Reinach says the team has taken valuable lessons from that loss and is focused on improving as a group.

There will also be plenty of milestone moments, with Pieter-Steph du Toit set to earn his 100th Test cap, while Ox Nche will make his 50th appearance for the Boks.

Lovemore Chasing More Than Medals in Poland

South African paddler Hamish Lovemore heads into the Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Poznan with plenty on the line.

The 27-year-old has been building momentum on the international circuit and arrives in Poland after an impressive May campaign.

He reached the 1 000m final in Szeged, Hungary, before going one better in Brandenburg, Germany, where he claimed silver in the same event.

And that’s just a taste of what’s on the sporting menu this weekend. From runners taking over the streets of Johannesburg, to the Boks renewing their rivalry with the All Blacks and Lovemore chasing a big result in Poland, there’s plenty to keep South African sports fans tuned in.
