The Touwsranten community benefits from upgrades made to a local crèche and several feeding schemes.
Wilderness, South Africa (27 August 2026) – Sonneblom Crèche is based in Touwsranten and provides early education and meals to around 80 children, staff and caregivers in Wilderness.
Last week, the centre received a helping hand with meaningful upgrades made to its infrastructure, kitchen and sanitation. The improvements were aimed at creating a safer and healthier environment for the children.

SANParks’ Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park carried out the upgrades as part of its corporate social investment programme that aims to improve living conditions, strengthen community-based services and support the wellbeing of those living alongside the region’s protected areas.
In addition to the centre upgrade, SANParks also provided essential equipment to six community soup kitchens and two ECD centres.
The six feeding schemes are largely operated by volunteers and collectively provide approximately 760 meals to adults and 650 meals to children each week!
The support included pots, stoves, gas cylinders, refrigerators, as well as cooking and eating utensils.
The equipment will help these community-based initiatives to better prepare and provide meals to many vulnerable community members. Children, elderly people and people living with disabilities will all benefit from these upgrades.
