Through epic games and shared purpose, WILDTRUST’s Arbour Week Tournament is growing more than environmental awareness in the communities of northern KZN; it is nurturing teamwork, community pride and a deeper connection to nature.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (03 September 2026) – A new month has arrived, bringing reminders of fresh beginnings, pretty blooms and the beauty of nature. In northern KwaZulu-Natal, in the communities near Tembe Elephant Park, it has also brought a burst of competitive energy in the spirit of Arbour Week.

This Tuesday marked an exciting start to WILDTRUST’s three-day Arbour Week Tournament, which brought community enviro champ teams from the Tembe Hub together to strengthen teamwork and celebrate friendly competition.

“The Tembe Hub teams, made up of three teams of five YES employees, went head-to-head with Bhekula, represented by four teams of five YES employees, in a series of fun and engaging challenges,” WILDTRUST said.

From Tug of War and the Seedling Toss to Canopy Builders and the Water Bucket Express, participants put their strength, strategy, problem-solving skills and teamwork to the test. Beyond the competition, the day also highlighted the importance of collaboration, learning and community spirit – values at the heart of Arbour Week.

Trees are the quiet backbone of healthy communities. They filter our air, cool rising urban temperatures, protect topsoil from erosion and restore biodiversity. More than just a calendar event, Arbour Week is a practical call for people everywhere to help heal the local ecosystems that do so much for us and the environment.

Experiences like the Arbour Week Tournament give people a hands-on, shared stake in the cause, transforming a simple awareness week into an interactive and meaningful opportunity for environmental impact.

As the day came to a close, one winning team from Tembe Hub and one from Bhekula emerged as the Day 1 champions.

“A huge congratulations to all the participants for bringing their enthusiasm, determination and team spirit to the tournament!”

The excitement continues as WILDTRUST takes a week of teamwork, learning and meaningful community engagement to Mabasa and Mbazwana Tribal Courts.
