Two mommy dogs are surviving on the streets of Botha’s Hill, and with one pup already rescued, Paw Prints needs the community’s help to bring the moms to safety.

Botha’s Hill, South Africa (16 September 2026)Paw Prints Rescue and Rehoming works around the clock to help save any and every vulnerable animal in its midst. Recently, however, two stranded mommy dogs have been giving this hardworking team the runaround.

For days now, the rescue has been inundated with calls about the dogs, who were spotted up near the local SPAR in Botha’s Hill. According to reports, both moms had litters within just a few weeks of each other, though until recently, no one knew where the pups were hiding.

“As they got older, the mommies emerged from the bushes and relocated under a ‘truck’ at the back of the SPAR,” Paw Prints shared in a social media post.

“Most of their pups have disappeared, with one sadly being knocked over the other day.”

The team has attempted to catch the moms several times, even while they were still pregnant.

“But they are just too skittish, and we can’t get near them.”

Because the area they’ve chosen to hide out in isn’t safe enough to leave traps, Paw Prints has teamed up with two wonderful local ladies to help feed them.

Paw Prints is now asking the locals to try to help catch these moms before the next batch of pups comes along. The organisation expressed that incidents like this are never easy and wishes it had the capacity to take in every homeless dog in the area.

“We so desperately want to save them all, but then we’d need to be three times the size we are now, and even then we wouldn’t be big enough.”

As a silver lining of the story, this week Paw Prints managed to rescue the final remaining pup of one of the moms, whom they have named Yoshi.

“He is in quarantine because of his skin and is off to see the vet tomorrow for a checkup and necessary vacs and treatment. We are happy Yoshi is safely in our care. With good food, medical treatment and lots of TLC, Yoshi will soon be ready for a home.”

The Botha’s Hill community is encouraged to keep an eye out for the mommy dogs and reach out to Paw Prints with any information that could help capture them, giving them the warmer, safer life they deserve.

If you are able, please also consider making a small donation toward Yoshi’s vet checkup and care.
