Through Love uMngeni’s Work Ready programme, one woman who once arrived uncertain and lacking confidence has gained the skills, purpose and self-belief to build a brighter future.

uMngeni, South Africa (05 October 2026) – In a country where jobs and stable work opportunities are scarce, and where available roles require skills and knowledge, work-readiness programmes can make all the difference. They not only bridge the gap to employment but also help people gain the tools they need to shape their lives.

When one woman entered Love uMngeni’s Work Ready programme, she had hopes and questions about her future. According to the community upliftment organisation, she was not always confident in herself or certain about how to navigate the world of work. She knew she wanted more for her future, but self-doubt sometimes stood in the way.

However, the Work Ready programme helped change that.

“Through the programme, she gained more than employment knowledge. She developed confidence, communication skills, self-awareness, professionalism and a stronger sense of responsibility – skills that can make a real difference as she takes her next steps towards employment,” Love uMngeni shared.

With newfound direction and purpose, she learned about her rights and responsibilities in the workplace, including employment contracts, fair wages, working hours and different types of leave.

“She learned what it means to show up professionally, communicate effectively and take responsibility for her role as an employee.”

The “Your Dream Journey” element of the programme helped her turn her hopes into goals and those goals into practical steps. She also discovered how everyday choices, such as recycling and reusing, can contribute to a more responsible and sustainable future.

Perhaps the programme’s most deeply personal impact was the way it changed how she viewed herself. Once a participant who lacked confidence, she became an empowered woman who now recognises her strengths, feels more comfortable speaking to others, is more open to learning and is better prepared to take on new opportunities.

Most importantly, as Love uMngeni states, she is beginning to believe that her future is not something she simply waits for. It is something she can actively build.

Today, working a steady job in a spice shop, her journey from hoping for opportunities to preparing for them is not only inspiring; it also reminds us of the impact a work-readiness programme can have on someone trying to find their feet and take meaningful steps towards their dream.
