Two Strangers

What started as a Sunday first-time trip to the Milnerton Market turned into something truly special when two Stellenbosch locals paused their shopping to help a stranger in need.

Milnerton, South Africa (12 October 2026) – When first-time visitors Georgia Finlagson and Ties Bakker decided to check out the Milnerton Market, they likely pictured an easy Sunday morning with the highlight of a fun outing hunting for unique finds. However, when they encountered a woman in urgent need of medical help, they didn’t hesitate to put their plans on hold.

According to a post on the Milnerton Market Traders Facebook group, the woman required assistance beyond what market staff could provide.

“Without hesitation, Georgia Finlagson and Ties Bakker, visiting from Stellenbosch, offered to transport the lady to a medical facility,” shared Jacque Oosthuizen of the MITA committee.

Once she was safely dropped off, Georgia and Ties returned to the market to finish their shopping. Jacque expressed deep gratitude to the pair for stepping up so quickly to help a complete stranger.

“Hope we see you back at the market on Sunday to have a full day’s market experience, and to enjoy a delicious complimentary breakfast at Fillipinos Food Delights,” he added.

Their quick thinking and compassion in a moment of panic have warmed hearts across social media, drawing widespread praise and pride from the local community. As one commenter put it:

“This is what the world needs more of! You, young man and woman, are great examples of community spirit and selfless empathy. Bright, bright futures ahead for both of you. May the Lord continue to bless your road in life. Well done.”

In a world where it is easy to keep walking, Georgia and Ties chose to stop and care. Their simple act of kindness serves as a reminder to us all that heroism doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes, it just takes choosing to show up for someone else when it matters most.
