There’s a sense of collective joy today following the terrifying hijacking incident involving the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA. Both dogs taken during the ordeal have been found safe! The SPCA still needs help tracking down its stolen vehicle.
Johannesburg, South Africa (15 October 2026) – Yesterday, Germiston Bedfordview SPCA’s vehicle was hijacked. The society’s loyal driver, Junior, was held at gunpoint and later dropped off in Soweto. Two dogs were still in the vehicle when it was taken.
There has been a positive update!
By Wednesday evening, the SPCA received a call confirming that the two dogs – a male cross Labrador-type and a male white Border Collie-type – were found safe and are currently under the loving care of the Johannesburg SPCA!
While we celebrate the safety of the two four-leggeds, the ordeal is not over yet. The hijacked vehicle – an Isuzu Fleetside single cab – is still missing.
Despite rumours circulating on local radio and social media suggesting it had been recovered, the SPCA has confirmed that the vehicle remains missing (at the time of writing).
The loss of the vehicle is a massive blow to the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA. Without it their daily operations are crippled. This vehicle supports operations including responding urgently to animal cruelty reports, rescuing injured, abandoned, and vulnerable animals in distress, transporting animals to veterinary facilities for urgent medical treatment, and collecting essential donations that keep the shelter running.
For these reasons, South Africans should still be on the lookout. The SPCA needs your eyes and ears! Thousands of supporters worked together to keep the story alive until the dogs were brought to safety. Now let’s help the SPCA recover their crucial transport.
The vehicle has distinct SPCA branding on both sides. Even if the vinyl decals or physical signage have been removed, the shadow or outline of the branding will likely still be visible on the paintwork.
If you see the vehicle (MZ 16 NN GP) or spot a vehicle matching this description, please take note of the exact location, time, and direction of travel, and immediately contact the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA at 011 825 5033.
