A gun was held to Junior’s head. Two dogs were in the back. They drove off with them. South Africa, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA needs our help!
Johannesburg, South Africa (14 October 2026) – It is a harsh and deeply painful reality when crime reaches even the heroes who dedicate their lives to protecting the most vulnerable.
Today, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA faced a devastating blow when one of their dedicated vehicles was hijacked, and two precious dogs were taken along with it.
Yet, in moments of darkness, the true heart of South Africa always shines through. When our community rallies together, shares the news, and refuses to look away, hope becomes our strongest weapon…
Earlier today, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA’s Isuzu Fleetside single cab – bearing registration MZ 16 NN GP – was hijacked while travelling between Germiston and Soweto.
The SPCA’s beloved driver, Junior, was on his way to the vet when a man approached the passenger window, pretending to ask about the SPCA.
Tragically, when Junior opened the window, the suspect unlocked the door, jumped in, and held a firearm to his head. Junior was forced out, pushed into another vehicle, and later dropped off in Soweto.
“He made his way to a police station, badly shaken. For several hours, our team had no way of reaching him.” the SPCA shares.
The ordeal left the entire team terrified not just for their employee’s safety, but for the two innocent lives left inside the vehicle.
In the back of the hijacked vehicle were two dogs, now missing and desperately vulnerable. One was a male cross Labrador-type, black and brown. The other was a male white Border Collie-type.
Thinking of these two defenceless animals taken in such a terrifying ordeal is heartbreaking. The SPCA team is working closely with SAPS, and the search is ongoing.
It is heavy to comprehend how anyone could target an SPCA employee and innocent animals. But this is where we, as South Africans, can step in. Crime tries to isolate us but community defeats it. By sharing this story widely across social media and community networks, we can make the vehicle and the dogs impossible to hide.
If you spot the vehicle (MZ 16 NN GP) or see the two dogs, please note the exact location and time, and immediately contact the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA at 011 825 5033.
The vehicle features distinct SPCA branding on both doors. Even if the physical signage has been removed, the outline of the branding may still be visible on the paintwork.
Let’s rally together, spread the word, and help bring these animals home safely!
