Learners, teachers and parents at Germiston South Primary School collected food for animals cared for by the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA.
Johannesburg, South Africa (15 October 2026) – Learners at Germiston South Primary School have collected food for animals in the care of the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA, showing how small acts of kindness can make a difference.
A school food collection has given animals at the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA a helping hand, thanks to the generosity of learners, parents and teachers at Germiston South Primary School.
The school recently welcomed SPCA kennel manager and field officer Mthunzi Motha to an assembly, where he had the opportunity to meet learners and explain the organisation’s work in protecting and caring for animals in the community.
The visit also offered an opportunity to talk about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership and the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect.
The SPCA thanked everyone who contributed to the food collection, noting that donations help support the animals who rely on the organisation for care.
The school’s continued support is particularly meaningful because it gives learners a chance to put compassion into practice. Learning about animal welfare is one thing, but taking part in a collection shows children how they can help make a difference in their own community.
By encouraging young people to care for animals and understand their needs, initiatives like this can help nurture a more compassionate generation.
The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA has expressed its gratitude to the school community for standing alongside the organisation and helping care for animals in need.
