Thanks to a village that puts its youth first, young learners in Tokai now have the gear to build life-saving swimming skills, and donated toys have turned a local church’s children’s room into a warm and welcoming space.

Cape Town, South Africa (19 October 2026) – Good things happen when a village comes together to uplift its youngest members. Last Thursday was a busy day of service for the Lions Club of Tokai, as members distributed pre-loved swimwear, storage boxes, and toys to support two meaningful community initiatives.

First, as part of the Westlake Water Safe project, the club handed over donated swimming costumes to AquaZurra, a non-profit organisation. This collaborative effort, which brings together AquaZurra, the Westlake Taxi Association, Ward Councillor Carolynne Franklin, and the Lions Club of Tokai, provides swimming lessons and water safety education to learners from Westlake Primary School.

The initiative got a big boost from Springfield Pre-Primary School in Wynberg, which generously answered the call for assistance by donating the pre-loved swimwear.

The Lions Club of Tokai extended its sincere thanks to Springfield Pre-Primary for their generosity, and to club member Jill Rumbelow for facilitating the project. Thanks to this shared effort, young learners will now have the opportunity to build life-saving skills and confidence in the water.

That same day, the club also delivered storage boxes and toys to St Thomas Community Church in Heideveld. The storage boxes will support the church’s Youth Programme, while the toys will help create a welcoming, fun environment in the Children’s Room. The club warmly thanked member Lynette Davids for facilitating this project and for helping to ensure that these donated items reached those who will benefit most from them.

Thanks to a community that puts its youth and children first, several young souls now have the gear they need to learn life-saving swimming skills, while new toys fill a church youth programme to spark play and imagination.

“At the Lions Club of Tokai, we believe that meaningful service comes in many forms. Whether helping children learn essential life skills and support community programmes that nurture and develop young people. Through collaboration and selfless service, as a club, we will continue to make a positive difference in the communities we serve,” the club shared.
