When Kutlwano thought of ways to celebrate her birthday this year, it made perfect sense to pack up her grooming kit and head over to the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre – a kind gesture that gave over 10 rescue dogs a pamper day and helped three of them find their forever homes!

Johannesburg, South Africa (19 October 2026) – The Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SARAC) is a place where countless furry souls have found a safe landing, veterinary care, rehabilitation and, for some, even a second chance at a loving home.

It is where dedicated staff and volunteers are committed not only to rehabilitating and re-homing the animals that walk through their doors, but also to finding the perfect match between each animal and their new family.

Several of those furbabies who currently call SARAC home were recently treated to a very special pamper day. On Saturday, Kutlwano ‘Kay’ Modiba of Kay’s Paw Salon decided to surprise the shelter, arriving fully armed with her grooming kit!

“Without any hesitation, she groomed over 10 of our rescues. It was a pleasant surprise to see our rescues smelling and looking so beautiful,” shared SARAC.

And if that wasn’t special enough, after getting in touch with Kutlwano, Good Things Guy learned that this kind gesture was her unique way of celebrating her birthday.

“For my birthday this past weekend, I wanted to do something meaningful instead of just celebrating quietly,” Kutlwano tells us.

“Having previously volunteered and seen the incredible work shelters do, I decided to pack up my grooming kit, balloons, and bow ties and head over to SARAC to give a few rescue dogs a free pamper session.”

Her love for animals began years ago when she first dreamed of working in animal care.

“This eventually led me to complete my professional dog grooming training to start my own business, Kay’s Paw Salon,” she says.

Her surprise birthday visit was simply motivated by a desire to help the dogs feel fresh, look happy, and boost their chances of adoption.

And boost them it did! Thanks to this generous and heartfelt gesture, three fluffy, fresh doggos won over new hearts and were successfully rehomed by the end of the day!

“Seeing how a simple bath and a fresh look helped some of those sweet dogs get adopted on the spot was the best birthday present I could have ever asked for,” shares a delighted Kutlwano.

“It reminded me why I started Kay’s Paw Salon in the first place: to pamper one paw at a time and give back to animals who give us so much unconditional love.”

SARAC expressed its immense gratitude to Kutlwano, whose kind act wasn’t just a lovely and much-welcomed surprise; it made three happy endings possible for animals who might have otherwise been overlooked before their paw-tastic makeovers.

In an economically tough climate where it makes all the sense for businesses to prioritise profits, it’s inspiring to see someone who makes time to uplift their community and create miracles for those quietly holding on to the dream of being seen and loved.

Well done, Kutlwano, and a very happy belated birthday to you!
