With the festive season approaching and more visitors expected to explore Cape Town’s great outdoors, SANParks has completed its annual safety inspections on key hiking routes in Table Mountain National Park.
Cape Town, South Africa (20 October 2026) – Summer is around the corner, and for many people, that means trading the couch for a mountain trail, a scenic viewpoint and a little fresh air.
But before hikers lace up their boots and head out to explore Table Mountain, there is some important work happening behind the scenes to help keep those adventures safe.
SANParks has completed its annual inspection, testing and re-certification of ladders, chains and fixed safety infrastructure along key hiking routes in Table Mountain National Park.
The checks form part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to keeping the park’s trails safe and enjoyable for everyone. Hikers and visitors were thanked for their patience and cooperation during temporary delays while the inspections were carried out.
With the warmer months bringing more opportunities to get outdoors, the work is an important reminder that a great hiking experience starts well before reaching the summit.
SANParks has also encouraged visitors to take a few simple precautions before setting off. Hikers should plan their routes, check the weather forecast, carry enough water, stay on designated trails and hike in groups where possible. It is also important to let someone know your plans before heading out.
A special word of thanks went to the SANParks Honorary Rangers Table Mountain Region for their continued support and dedication.
Cape Town’s mountains offer some spectacular ways to spend a day, but a little preparation can go a long way towards making sure the memories are about the views rather than an avoidable mishap.
So, whether you are planning a sunrise summit, a weekend walk or a holiday adventure with friends, remember to pack your enthusiasm alongside your water bottle and put safety at the top of the list.
