When the Angel Network’s baking lessons initiative reached several individuals determined to improve their lives, scone recipes quickly transformed into growing small businesses, bringing new income, dignity, and hope to their families.
Gauteng, South Africa (26 October 2026) – When something as seemingly simple as baking lessons becomes the very thing that changes a person’s life forever!
In February this year, the Angel Network took 20 of its beneficiaries on a basic scone and muffin baking course as part of its ongoing skills development programme.
The Angel Network’s goal is simple: to uplift communities, create opportunities, and equip beneficiaries with skills they can use to build sustainable businesses and livelihoods. And this vision became an inspiring reality through its baking skills development initiative.
“Our beneficiaries embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and gratitude, and four of them have since turned their new skills into businesses and a source of income,” the Angel Network proudly shared.
Witnessing their commitment, dedication, and progress inspired the organisation to take the next step by selecting six of the beneficiaries to attend an advanced cake-baking course – something that proved a dream come true for them.

By the very next day, they were already advertising their new skills and products, and within just three days, orders began pouring in!
It all just goes to show that when this support meets the right people, this programme becomes about so much more than just baking lessons. It is about transforming lives.

As the Angel Network puts it: it is opportunities, dreams becoming reality, individuals discovering their potential, gaining confidence, and taking meaningful steps towards a brighter, more independent future.
In a personal testimony, one of the bakers shared:
“This workshop has given me hope, confidence and a chance to grow Zans Cakes Creations into a sustainable business that can support my family. One day I hope this business will also allow me to give back to my community and help others.”

Another beneficiary also shared similar sentiments, saying:
“The workshop gave me confidence to believe I can do this and made the impossible feel possible. I can now go in a room and speak or sell my cakes and deliver the quality customers are looking for.”
At The Angel Network, real change happens when people are given the tools, skills, and opportunities to build a better life for themselves and their families. In this inspiring story, it all started with willing hearts open to trying something new and turning simple recipes into a lasting livelihood.
