Microsoft has been working on text-to-speech for many years, finally it has managed to perfect the feature to assist people who have dyslexia
Microsoft recently send out an update for the Office 365 packages, some of the updates are pretty standard tech wise however there was a really clever feature added to Microsoft Word.
The ‘Read Aloud’ feature was designed and fine tuned to assist people with Dyslexia.
“We continue to improve the Learning Tools available in Word and have moved Read Aloud to the Review tab. This latest update allows your document to be read back to you with simultaneous highlighting—from right within your workflow.”
“This makes it easier to recognize and correct errors as you write, improving reading and editing accuracy for everyone, especially users with learning disabilities such as dyslexia.”
There was a ‘Read Aloud’ option launched in December of last year but this is an upgrade of that as it allows the user to adjust the speed and voice.
The feature also allows a person to continue working while the work is being read aloud. Reading the text aloud makes it easier to spot and correct mistakes, and the option will also help those who just want to proof read a document. It is also recommended to be used with earphones.
The feature is currently only available to the Office 365 testers but it will be launched later in the year to the public.
