Vicky Seboyane and Anthony Sacks, two restaurant owners in Orange Grove, Gauteng teamed up to make sure the men seeking employment nearby have a sustainable meal and don’t go hungry.
Every Wednesday Vicky Seboyane and Anthony Sacks come together to feed the unemployed men that are looking for work. The men stand on the roadside and offer their skills, which range from painting houses to plumbing and more.
It is common knowledge that food provides energy and many of these men will leave home without eating and hope to find a job where they will need to do physical labour. They require sustenance for the jobs they do. It can sometimes turn into a vicious cycle. This is why Vicky and Anthony stepped in.
They wanted to make sure these men were not starving while looking for work to provide for their families. So they started handing out healthy and sustainable meals. The men have been cooking up pap (maize meal), meat and veggies.
“When we started we only gave out 60 full meal plates and now we have increased the number to 100, but it is still not enough.”
Vicky wanted the community to know that they are more than just a business looking to make money. They care deeply about those in their area.
“We also continued with our initiative during the festive season to ensure that these people also share in the fun of the holidays.”
The men receiving the meals have been so grateful for the kindness. One man said that he is grateful that the restaurants have gone to so much effort and have been giving them such good meals instead of just leftovers. One of the beneficiaries and a local resident, Pride Dube, said,
”We’re very grateful and they don’t only do it for the few of us who are here looking for employment but for the entire community.”
Seboyane owns Vicky’s Restaurant along Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove and Sacks owns the Next Door Restaurant in Norwood. If you are ever in the area, go show them some love and support their businesses. Men like these guys are worth giving back to too!
