Migrant

The story about a migrant man in France has gone viral globally after he climbed up a building to save a child hanging from a balcony on the 4th floor.

On Saturday evening in Northern Paris, Mamoudou Gassama became an instant hero. While walking by a building in the area he heard screaming. He looked up and saw a child hanging onto a railing from the 4th floor. He immediately jumped into action to save the child.

He has since been hailed as a hero and is now being called the ‘Spider-Man’ of Paris. In a matter of seconds, Gassama managed to get from the ground floor up to the 4th floor. He used the balcony rails as a ladder to get to the child as quickly as possible.

The moment was captured on camera which has since gone viral. Gassama was tracked down and invited to meet with the President of France. Gassama, a migrant from Mali had only been in Paris a few months when the incident occurred

He has since been offered a naturalised citizenship as well as a place at a local fire station, to become a volunteer firefighter. In an interview with the Guardian, he confirmed that after the experience, he was utterly terrified of what would happen.

“I saw all these people shouting and cars sounding their horns. I climbed up like that and, thank God, I saved the child,” he said.

“I felt afraid when I saved the child … [when] we went into the living room, I started to shake, I could hardly stand up, I had to sit down.”

According to reports, the child’s father was not at home at the time of the incident. He will be appearing in court following an investigation.
