The snow-capped mountaintops are causing many Capetonians to take the scenic drive out to Ceres for adventure but did you know good can come from your trip?
Community Helping Animals In Need (CHAIN) have created a call to action for Capetonians heading to Ceres for a snow-capped adventure. The organisation is located in the cold and icy Ceres area and need to keep their animals warm and fed during this cold snap.
They have come up with a clever idea to boost donations and it is as simple as can be. If you have packed up the car with the kids and all your warmest clothing, make a little room for some dog food or a nice warm blanket and drop it off in town before heading up into the mountains.
CHAIN has set up an easy, central drop-off point for people to visit before driving out of town. The local Seeff agency has opened its doors and will take all donations on behalf of CHAIN.
This is a very good cause as these animals feel the cold just as much as we do. If you are not heading off to Ceres but also want to help someone in need, here are a few more ideas of things to do in Cape Town.
- Buy someone a bed at a Night Haven Shelter, R60 gets someone a warm bed for 5 nights during the stormy weather.
- Make sure your domestic worker or gardener has warm, waterproof clothing, an umbrella and sturdy shoes to get to work.
- Buy lentils, beans and wholesome root veggies, and drop them off at your local shelter or orphanage so that others can have a warm dinner.
- Old blankets, jackets and shoes? They are also welcome at shelters and orphanages.
- The call for blankets and cat or dog food will be equally needed at animal shelters close to your home. If you can, pop in and give the cooped up animals a bit of love too. Plus a chew toy can do wonders for a bored dog.
If you have any other suggestions, let us know and we will add them to the list.
