Dr Daniel McNeely used his very first Tweet to show how easy it is to spread kindness while working as a Neurosurgeon on a very special patient.

Dr Daniel McNeely specialises in surgery on the brain, a very delicate and focused field within the medical field so it was only fitting that he used his skills to perform a very important surgery for one of his patients… A little brown teddy bear.

Dr Daniel McNeely was scheduled to perform a surgery on 8-year-old Jackson McKie who has a chronic condition called hydrocephalus. He was having a cyst removed from his brain. Due to the chronic nature of his illness, Dr McNeely has been taking care of Jackson since he was an infant.

Just before his surgery was due to begin, Jackson asked the doctor for a small favour. His teddy had split a seam and was in need of a minor surgery to help repair it. Dr Daniel obliged the request and got to work once he had completed Jackson’s surgery.

McNeely asked the nurses to set out an extra table and set of tools for the stuffed animal so he could sew up a small tear in the teddy’s arm. He used some of the leftover stitches from Jackson’s surgery.

Dr McNeely had never tweeted before so he decided to share the images as his debute on Twitter. The images went viral and he has since earned close to 3k followers.

Another surgeon saw the Tweet and said that doctors should all join the “Teddy Bear Surgery Society” and we totally agree!
