The Western Cape provincial government launched 50 free public WiFi hotspots in partnership with Neotel across several wards today.

Western Cape, South Africa (18 March 2026) – Back in February, Western Cape Premier Helen Zille announced in her State of the Province Address that her government would be launching the hotspots this month as the 2015/16 financial year draws to a close.

The province will launch 384 hotspots in total. One hundred will be launched during the 2016/17 financial year and the remaining 234 during the 2017/18 financial year.

“We’re striving towards a Western Cape where every resident in every town and village has access to affordable high-speed broadband infrastructure and services, has the necessary skills to effectively utilise this infrastructure, and is actively using this in their day-to-day lives,” the provincial government said.

Users have access to 250MB of data a day, a month, and have unlimited access to all .gov.za websites.

However, if you’d like more data, you can buy 700MB for R5, 2G for R15 and 7G for R45, plus, the extra data will only expire in 2024.

The WiFi hotspots are mounted on the external walls of buildings and point towards the nearby community they serve. Depending on topography, anyone within 200m of the hotspot can use the service.

  • You can connect to the free WiFi in three easy steps.
  • Turn on WiFi on your smartphone, tablet or laptop
  • Search for nearby WiFi networks
  • Select “NeoHotspot” and connect

The province has deployed a team of “internet champions” for the next three months who will guide and assist residents in connecting to the service and taking advantage of the internet.
