Watch: Mamma Elephant gently wakes calf that does NOT want to get up

Conrad Cramer was on holiday when he got the chance to see an elephant that did not want to wake up, its mother nudged it gently and the calf refused

South Africa – Every kid on the planet has had a bit of a tough time waking up in the morning at some point in their life. It has come to our attention that it isn’t just humans that try sneak in an extra snooze when mom comes knocking. Elephants are just as prone to morning blues as the rest of us.

While on holiday, Elephant photographer Conrad Cramer was watching a small herd take shelter under a tree during the peak heat of the day. All the young elephants were passed out cold under the cool tree.

Their mother wandered over to wake them and had a bit of a tough time with her youngest. She gentle nudged the calf with her struck, stirring her baby awake. You could almost hear the calf saying “But mom, I don’t wanna get up!”.

Conrad Cramer spent some time watching this family group of elephants hiding from the heat of the day. The scene was so utterly peaceful and it is not often that you see elephants lying down and sleeping. Conrad’s curiosity was sparked, so he sat and observed.

Time passed until finally it looked like the matriarch was stirring, Conrad grabbed his camera and started filming, lucky enough to capture her waking the baby so tenderly.

Behind the calf, you can see how the older calf is snoozing deeply. Its breathe creating little dust clouds with ever exhilation.
